"What's The Opposite of Naive?" is a question to process as well as a sculpture. It was constructed using a video cassette tape, initially with the sole intention of sourcing the film inside for another project. However, as I began the process of extracting the film from the cassette, it became necessary to disassemble the plastic casing as well. This act triggered a flood of memories from my childhood when I used to disassemble such cassettes for sheer enjoyment and sparked contemplation on how nostalgia exerts a significant influence on my life.
I often find myself trapped in past memories, and like many others, I tend to idealize those days, yearning to relive them. This intense desire to revisit my childhood at times feels like it holds me captive in adulthood. The act of breaking open the tape cassette symbolizes the tension that exists between feeling like a child and the responsibilities of being an adult. The film, nestled between the fractured cassette pieces, serves as a bridge connecting these two worlds. Despite my awareness of being an adult, I often sense that I'm trapped somewhere in between, torn between the desire to recapture the past and the need to navigate the present.

Pinned Down: Consumed by Consumption was a readymade sculpture, strategically installed within a blackberry bush and was crafted using safety pins carefully arranged in the form of a spider web. This idea was born out of contemplation regarding the profound impact of human influence on nature.
Specifically, I consider spider homes which are carefully crafted from their biodegradable silk, that are often deemed unsightly, frightening, or inconvenient by humans. In contrast, when human homes are disrupted whether by natural disasters or intentionally, the aftermath typically involves a deluge of waste, trash, and materials that find their way into landfills.
This comparison serves as a reminder of our culture's propensity for overconsumption and the accumulation of excess. The repetitive use of safety pins in the sculpture symbolizes the surplus of materials in my personal life, reflecting the broader theme of excessive consumption and its consequences for both our natural surroundings and our lifestyles.
