Leftovers

In my work titled "Leftovers," I explore the societal dynamics reflected in the discount sections of grocery stores and the discarded items in thrift stores. Inspired by the sale of damaged goods at grocery stores, I draw a parallel to how individuals facing poverty are often left with the metaphorical "leftovers" of those more privileged. This analogy is visualized through an apple, a symbol of fresh produce found in nature, now priced at $1.98 due to inflation. The bite taken from the apple signifies its use, while a repurposed thrift store sticker priced at $99.99 illustrates the cycle of reselling items obtained for free to those with limited choices. Through this juxtaposition, "Leftovers" aims to provoke reflection on economic disparities and the commodification of basic necessities.
