In my Self Portrait (2074), I grapple with the debilitating theme of mortality, as inspired by my poem "What's The Matter?" The composition envisions my future self as a pile of ashes, interwoven with my daily jewelry, offering a glimpse into the year 2074. This work becomes a visceral exploration of the intersection between the present and an anticipated future, where my thoughts of the inevitable disrupt my current joy, viewing myself as "pre-soil." Confronting my thanatophobia, I use the symbolism of ashes and personal artifacts to discuss the transient nature of life and the complex emotions that arise when contemplating our own mortality.
